Given Bhangarh's reputation as the most haunted place in India, we had been planning to visit this place for a long time and finally had a chance to go this week. In one word, it was disappointing it was really hot and humid, a really long drive from Delhi, much more crowded than expected, and not even close to spooky (during the daytime at least).
We left Delhi at 3 AM and we decided to take Alwar route. It was nice drive with scenic views of the Aravalli. Good chance of spotting some wildlife as well. The fort was at the top. It is still under renovation. Basically it is best to drive up and down, stopping to catch some scenic views. It was a decent route to reach there, and as it was a rainy day, the route was perfectly fine. However, most of the road was bumpy and went through villages. Eventually we reached the fort at 9 AM, and there were couple of local people already there. You have to walk 15 mins to reach the main fort. It was beautiful, but just like any other beautiful tourist fort. People were trying to make scary noises inside the rooms of the fort – which could not really frighten us. We stayed there for just 45 mins. At maximum you can spent 1.5 hours there. There was another monument on the top of the fort hills around 3000-4000 feet. It took around 30 to 45 min to track and reach that monument. But the track was not easy. There were huge slippery stones on the way and we had to walk after resting our hands against the stones. The real worth of this journey lied in tracking up and down to this monument. It actually made us feel that we did something extraordinary in Bhangargh. It was a nice drive with scenic views of the Aravalli. Good chance of spotting some wildlife as well. Basically it is best to drive up and down, stopping to catch some scenic views. On our way back, we took the same route. Overall, the fort was nice – but it not worth such a long journey.
Maybe if you're in Jaipur or Alwar, it is better visit this place. You should go when the weather's nice and cold, and if possible, in the evening - maybe it is more scary then!
